WELCOME to _ the bank The building was built in 1922 to be a 1600 seat live theater and movie house in the heart of downtown Meadville. By 1939 Meadville was selling over a million tickets a year; that included the Park theater, the Academy theater on Chestnut Street and a third theater on Water Street, called the Mead. Entertainers like Count Basse and movie premiers like Snow White graced the Park Theater stage. Over 49,000 sq. ft., it was home to Saturday matines with Ma and Pa Kettle and the Marx Brothers. By the late 1950's the Park Theater was sold to 1st National bank for almost a half million dollars. The building continued to serve as a regional bank for the Crawford County community with its unique design and huge vault with two ten ton doors. A free standing staircase led to the Mezzanine floor for offices and the conferance room. The marble and granite teller's row curved to embrace the ground floor while the stately glass windows allowed the passerby a spacious view of the bank. It remained a bank until 1999 and for the next few years it was vacant. Then in 2005, Ed Fine, a recently retired physician in Meadville bought the building. Restored to its 1950's charm and _ the bank in late November of 2005 opened with only a few shops and the uniquely designed Tellers Row Coffee Bar. Keeping most of the original design of the tellers row it was transformed into a espresso bar, including the teller windows, marble, granite and its distinctive CURVE! The Vault was also preserved and today serves as a used book store, called of course, the Book Vault. Over the next few years _ the bank continued to grow and today has twenty shops and services. It continues to offer a relaxed atmosphere with its open spaces and soft colors. Inside _ the bank are antiques, collectibles, artists, jewelry, art supplies, designer all occassion cards and Gift shop. Bridal consultant, Prom dresses and Tux rental. For the Guys there is model railroading and fly fishing accessories and antique tools w/accessories. New businesses added in September 2011 include framing & laser engraving, bake goods, jellies, jams & dip mixes, gift baskets of homemade goodies for holiday gift giving, floral designs of silk and dried flowers. Services such as massage therapy, granite counter tops and cabinetry, gold and silver (buy or sell) are also available _ the bank. COME shop _ the bank where Art, History and Taste come together!
